Well, we’re merely hours now away from Christmas and goodness, hasn’t it been a CAHRAYZEE month? I feel like it’s gone by in a blur so I’m looking forward so much to a few days with Wayne and the kitties, relaxing with warm drinks, nice cocktails, lots of Christmas telly and then, on Christmas Day, spending it with Wayne’s family. It’s the first Christmas in 4 years that we haven’t hosted and I have to say, OH MY GOD I CAN’T WAIT. I do love hosting, don’t get me wrong but knowing that I get to be cooked for (and by his sister, who is a very good cook), oh yes, I’m looking forward to that very muchly.
However, as I am not hosting, that means I don’t really get to do a proper Christmas table. Was I going to let that stop my fun? Oh no sirree… I decided to do up our Christmas table this weekend just for fun and we’ll be enjoying it this evening to get the festivities started a little early. You just can’t keep me away from a pretty Christmas tablescape, I’m sorry, ain’t gonna happen.
So some of the pictures show the candles lit and some don’t – sorry for the inconsistencies but I wasn’t sure which would photograph better, especially as I had a low winter sun streaming in. I think you get the general idea though!
I decided to create a tablecloth using some fabric I’ve had for a while – it’s white with little black scattered imperfect polka dots and then used the runners I created out of the leftover
Manuel Canovas Bengale fabric that I’d used on my chairs. The ‘tablecloth’ isn’t really wide enough but I thought it was such a pretty backdrop to the orange and pink fabric that I would use it anyway.
I also used my linen palm napkins from Zara Home to add a bit of green. Pink and Green can be Christmassy, right? Well, I like to think so. Especially when you throw in some gold sparkly deer, floral picks with pinecones and little pinecone tealight candles.
Because I wanted to add some natural elements to the table, I chose these rattan placemats from Matalan (they are only Β£2 each and very big and very substantial – that’s good value right there) to sit under the
plates purchased from Very early in the month.
My gold flatware (an eBay bargain a couple of years ago) is always taken out for special occasions to bling up the table.
Speaking of blinging up the table, I potted a bright pink poinsettia in this white pot but it needed a bit of sparkle so just wrapping it with a gold elastic band was enough to give it a little bit of interest.
The bright pink dinner candles are from
Rockett St George (just Β£1 each and again, huge, they last a good long while) and the little pink votives were a bargain (again, just Β£1 each) from Amazon. The glassware is vintage from eBay which I’ve had for a few years. The little teardrop candle holders are from
David Gavin Design in Didsbury where I got the Bengale fabric. They were only Β£4 each but have a lovely glow when lit.
So, all in, it’s actually a pretty good budget table – showing that you don’t need to spend ridiculous amounts of money for a glam look.
