If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know how much I love colour in a space. From deep indigos to pale pink, dusty olive to bold yellow, bright orangeΒ to juicy cranberry, there aren’t many colours I don’t love and I’m clearly not the only one.
As much as I love this country and living here, I’ve always felt that the styles in the UK tend to play it a bit too safe. I think neutrals are a wonderful base for a bold colour palette but there are so many people who seem afraid to use colour in their interiors or aren’t sure where to start! And yet, there seems to be a little rebellion to all those neutrals recently and I’m finally seeing so many people really embracing colour and having fun with it! Yay! So today’s post is definitely one for both the colour-lovers out there and the colour-intimidated.
Now, I have been a huge fan of Shannon Claire’s blog Burlap and Lace for quite some timeΒ now. Discovering her was like finding a style sister as she’s as equally enamoured with bold, glamorous, colourful style as I am, she creates some incredible artwork and her (rental!!) apartment is a testament to her crafty, creative style. She’s fearless and fun and a real sweetheart. She’s also got 2 kitties and the most adorable pup! We naturally became blogging friends very quickly.
So we decided to collaborate on a new fun project together. We’ve decided to introduce a new Instagram hashtag called #colorshare.
Now for my lovely UK readers, yes, that’s ‘color’ and not ‘colour’ and yes, I’m going to have to try hard not to add the ‘u’ in there too but for the sake of an international audience (Shannon lives in Washington, DC and so many of my readers are US and Canadian based as well), we decided to keep it as short and sweet as possible.
The pictures you’re seeing in my post are all of Shannon’s incredible home. So part of the reason for this post is to share with you her incredible style so you understand just why the idea of a collaboration was so appealing to me! This girl has some SERIOUS style. In fact, her home just appeared on The Glitter Guide very recently and it’s amazing.
Here’s where I would love for you to join in.Β We want to see your own colourful style!! Whether it’s your bold bedroom, a stack of colourful cushions, if you spot some gorgeous colour inspiration on your travels or you’ve thrown together a colourful shelfie,Β we want you to share your colour with us!
Every month, we’re going to be gathering up images on Instagram using the hashtag #colorshare and sharing our individual favourites on both of our blogs. It’s super easy to join in – just use the hashtag on your Instagram posts and you may see your picture on our blogs! Bear in mind, you have to have both an Instagram account (it’s so easy to join if you haven’t already and if you haven’t, where have you been?! It’s amazing) and it needs to be a public account (otherwise we won’t be able to see it!).
We’ll link directly to your IG post so people can easily click on the links and be taken right back to your account! Like this…
Be sure to follow both my Instagram account here and Shannon’s Instagram account hereΒ for lots of colour inspiration although of course, this is not a requirement for joining in the hashtag fun. You can check out Shannon’s blog here too – you won’t be disappointed, I promise!
So will you be joining in? Our favourite IG posts for #colorshare will beΒ featured on both of our blogs onΒ Wednesday, the 16th September so be sure to get your IG posts up with the #colorshare tags on them soon! Thereafter, we’ll be featuring them once every month on a Wednesday.
Now, go ye and SHARE YOUR COLOUR! #colorshare
YAYYY! I’ve been waiting for this! My post goes live in an hour :) can’t wait to see everyone’s photos! Thank you for the kind words, my transcontinental soul sista! Xoxoxoxo
Whoop whoop! Can’t wait to see what people post! #colorshareFOREVA xxx
Yay! Instagram is hands down my favorite place to spend time lately! And I think you and Shannon are PERFECT partners for this – so excited!
P.S. Did you use the “embed” code from Instagram? I’ve had issues with it in the past appearing on mobile devices so I gave up, but I just viewed yours on my phone and it’s working just fine… Might have to give it another try! That would be perfect for #thriftscorethursday features!
Yay!! I can’t wait to see what you share my dear! And yes, just used the embed code from IG for this – I will keep an eye on it though, it’s working for me right now but hopefully it won’t break :/ xxx
I’m making an effort to inject more colour into our home. I’ve just ‘colorshared’ a pic of our blue dining room which was inspired by holidays on the Greek islands!
Yessss!! Love your beautiful dining room Daniel and so happy you’re joining us! Whoop! xxx
I also LOVE colour, having lived in South Africa for 30 years, I found it hard seeing a lot of beige bland interiors, I couldn’t understand it with all the variety that’s available, especially compared to what you can get in South Africa. I tend to gravitate towards the American design aesthetic too and love how they use colour. Nice!
Totally agree, I can’t look at ‘all beige’ rooms without feeling a bit depressed! Ha! So many other countries really embrace colour but it seems to be missing at times in the UK – hopefully we can rebel and show people we love colour ;) Can’t wait to see what you share Sharon!! xxx
Love this post xx i love colour, it makes me feel happy. Thats one of the reasons I stopped buying magazine’s the interiors nearly always looked the same, thanks Kimberly you’ve made my day? xxx
Yay!! Me too Pauline, there’s something wonderfully uplifting about using colour, don’t ya think? :) I’m so pleased you like the idea and hope you join in the fun Pauline! xxx
This is great and sounds fun! I love color and to me. .color does a home good! I’ll be looking forward to seeing all the wonderful colors being posted! Count me in on the fun. .btw..I love Shannon’s home. .it’s a two thumbs up
Yay!! So happy you’ll be joining in the #colorshare fun Jamala! :D And yes, Shannon’s home is just so gorgeous! xxx
So sorry you have had lousy weather! I am more than happy to share the heat and sunshine we have had here in South Carolina for some of your rain! You would not believe my water bill! It is often too hot to enjoy our patio in the evenings now, so I am looking forward to cooler weather (when???) and being able to be back outside again. I look forward to your garden reveal. It is definitely not to late!
Oh I was in South Carolina YEARS ago and it’s just so pretty there! But yes, it sounds like you are experiencing the other side of the extreme – I wish we could split it! Ha! It’s far too cold to sit outside on an evening here without your coat on and the firepit going ;) And thank you, I feel strangely guilty about being so late with a reveal! xxx
I’m not going to lie to you, I had a little bit of a welpy crying face that I wouldn’t be able to partake in your #ColorShare because. Well. I don’t have many colours in our home. But I think I may have prematurely ruled myself out! I do have *some* colours (mostly burgundy … and pink), so I’ll see if I can submit something truly Swoon Worthy ;)
p.s. Another advantage to #ColorShare minus the ‘U’? One less character on Twitter.
What?! Yes you have plenty of pretty colour in your home! Get thee sharing your colour (color) my dear ;) xxx
