First off, sorry for the lack of post on Friday! I had a crazy week with not one but TWO film crews in my home. The first, I can’t really talk about just yet (promise I will spill all as soon as I’m able) but the second is the one I spoke a little bit about in this post and the reason why we had to get the dining room as complete as possible in preparation for it. I filmed a 4 part series of quick and easy DIYs with SwiftCover for their #SwiftHomeHacks campaign! It was a very long and crazy day but so much fun and I’ll be sharing the first of the videos with you later this month! Yay!
Filming #SwiftHomeHacks with @redlilocks & loving her beautiful home. Videos coming soon! #SwoonWorthy #interiordesign #designblogger #interiorblogger
Anyway, it was a totally full on week and by Friday evening, I was absolutely shattered. Just thinking about getting up early and getting work done on the dining room was making me want to crawl further under my duvet. So yeah, we didn’t get anything done this weekend. That’s two weekends off from work on the room (the first, we were both sick) so alas, no updates!! Ack! I know, I am a terrible blogger but sometimes after doing weeks of DIY, you really just need a breather.
However, I figured today I’d just quickly share my choice of the tiles we’ll be using for the fireplace. It’s not a workingΒ fireplace and because of the placement of the table, reinstating it would have been a little pointless. However, we are going to have something else in there which I’ll be sharing with you soon ;)
So, these are the tiles from Tile Mountain that I chose. They will also be the tiles I’m using in the kitchen!! (more on that soon):
The best thing about these tiles is that while they look like Carrara Marble, they are actually porcelain tiles from Italy. They are stunning in person – a soft matt finish with a beautiful varying grain and unless you knew they were porcelain, they would easily be mistaken for the real deal. Even better, the tiles are super hard-wearing and won’t etch or stain the way real marble does. Plus? At around Β£40 per square meter, they are so much more affordable as an option. I mean, you can’t really get better than that.
So the plan is to use these tiles on the inside as well as on the hearth and we’ll be trimming them out with this brass edging strip.
I think the combination of the Carrara-effect tiles with the brass edging and the black fireplace mantle will look pretty bad ass and tie in nicely to the rest of the space.
Hopefully we can get our arses in gear and get that done next week so I can share it with you soon! And once the tiles are done, then it’s just a matter of finishing the flooring! We’re definitely in the home stretch here!
Oh, one last little bit of news! If you follow me on Instagram, you will have already seen this! Pick up the latest copy of Your Home magazine, there’s a supplement called ‘Making it Yours’ by Rustoleum in which I and a few other bloggers are featured!Β You can check out my featured desk makeover in this postΒ for how it was done!
In the meantime, what do you think of the tiles? Would you have mistaken them for real Carrara marble as well?
The tiles you’ve chosen are beautiful and really look like marble. I can’t wait to see the dining room reveal. I’m sure it will be stunning. I’m also looking forward to see your videos.

xx
Ahh thanks Sueli! I can’t wait to share it – we are so close now!! xxx
I so can’t wait to see those videos.
You and me both!! I’m scared lol xxx
Oh wow! I love them! I have actually been to Carrara and watching them work the marble is totally incredible, and you’re right, these totally look like the real deal.
And I hear you on DIY breaks – this weekend we did the same. Well, mostly anyway, we might have done a little rebuilding of the landing steps! xx
Oh wow, that’s amazing you’ve been to see how the tiles are made! They are stunning though, I was so impressed when I got them in person! And hell yeah, everyone needs a break now and again, DIY is hard graft! Although I love that you still did a little bit – I won’t tell ;) xxx
your work is awesome. Nice design. you can also concentrate in wall designing.
Yes, Yes and Yes. I love them! But why did you have to show me these tiles? As you know I’m already confused enough about my kitchen project and you throwing gorgeous tiles like these into the mix really isn’t helping, lol!! I seriously can;t wait to see what your dining room and kitchen look like when all finished!
And really can’t wait to see the videos!
Glad you’ve had a little rest, now get back to it!!
Hahaha! So sorry about adding to your confusion! These are fab though ;) And I’m excited about what’s to come to – back on it this weekend with tiling – good times ;) xxx
Hiya Kimberly, glad you are feeling better xxx. The tiles look beautiful, i really like them. I can’t wait to see the videos xxx
Aww thanks darling! I’ll be sharing the first video soon so stay tuned for that – of course I’m petrified as I haven’t seen them yet either – ack!! lol xxx
Love those tiles and the brass edging strip! It’s amazing the faux-stone and faux-wood ranges you can get in porcelain now, I’ve seen some and it’s really hard to tell them apart from the real thing!
Huge congrats on getting you and your home on camera! Can’t wait to see you on TV :-)
Ahh thanks my dear! And yes, they are doing some amazing things in tiles these days – I can’t wait to get these up! And cheers hun, can’t wait to share the videos when they are done :) xx
Can’t wait to see your videos! And I can’t wait more to see your finished dining room! Come on already!! ;-) xxx
Hiya,
Those tiles are beautiful but are they a pale grey or white? On this page they look white but on their website they look grey….lemme know what you reckon :)
Hi Sarah, they are most definitely white! I actually contacted Tile Mountain about the image they are using on their site because they definitely are not that grey in person. You can get free samples from them though to be sure but they are closer to my own image than theirs ;) I think they said they were going to try and sort out the picture on the site because I wouldn’t have even considered it if I had looked there without knowing as I would have dismissed them for being too grey! Hope that helps! xxx
Oh brilliant, I think I may have to get a sample. Desperate for marble but need to budget myself a bit with a 1st bambino on the way. I don’t want the final look to be compromised though so these look like a great solution :) Thanks!
Aww congrats on the little one!! And you won’t be disappointed, they are just gorgeous in person :) xxx
Love, love those tiles – and I would have chosen them too. Will be checking to see if they are available in the US I like them so much! And we have matching wallpaper taste, too. Your red pagoda wallpaper was in the running for my powder room but I ended up choosing something else but similar. And…and…and I have the same leopard design/print in a reddish-pink on a Chippendale-style chair in the living room. Oh my – lots of things cross that ocean, don’t they? Keep up the great work – you and your home are my eye candy!
Aww thank you! Here is the pdf catalogue if it helps you find a US supplier: http://www.tilesandmosaics.co.uk/cms-uploads/files/MARMI%20verde.pdf
Oh I love that we have so much in common!! Yay! Your home sounds amazing ;) Thank you so much xxx
