I still haven’t purchased those Ikea RAST chests of drawers as I spoke about in my last post but I’m hoping to do so soon.Β At the moment, I’m trying to save a few quid and not be so quick to spend money (sometimes easier said than done).Β Well, I’m happy to report that I stayed within my budget this month so buoyed on by my success, I’m determined to ensure all future purchases will continue to be carefully considered.Β At the moment, as I’m sure most would agree, it’s a matter of priorities.Β I have wishlists as long as my arm for pretty much every room of my home and that lottery win has yet to evade me so the wishlists remain as such.
Alas, that doesn’t stop me from window shopping and top of my priority list for the bedroom is a chest of drawers and some great lighting.Β Β I thought I’d share some of my inspiration here.

The chest of drawers is really for W because currently, he crams so much of his wardrobe into 4 small drawers in his pretty ugly – sorry, my love, but you know I’m right – wardrobe and I really think he needs a bit more storage.Β It will replace the skirted table that I have currently in this corner.
Now the specific style of the chest of drawers I’m pretty undecided about.Β I am leaning towards an unpainted one with a lovely deep wood patina.Β I don’t even mind if it’s a little beat up around the edges.Β Can I combine industrial chic and Hollywood Regency in one room?Β Well, why the hell not I say.Β That’s the beauty of eclectic design, isn’t it?Β Surrounding yourself with what you love.
See how nicely the deep wood goes with dark walls?

Here’s how it looks translated to a chest of drawers…

Although, style wise, I’m thinking something a little simpler…

I’ve been scouring eBay for a while now for the perfect one and I’ve found a few that I’ve loved only to be outbid at the last minute or having them go beyond the price point of what I was willing to pay.Β Alas, such is the joys of auction bidding.Β I’ll get lucky one of these days.
The second item is the lighting.Β At the moment, I have a flocked pendant that I’ve had since.. erm… about 2007.Β It’s not something I would have picked out today but it’s better than a bare light bulb and until I find something I love, it’ll probably stay there.
I’ve been thinking that something a bit mid-century might work here.

I know this isn’t a bedroom but isn’t that light fixture just completely bonkers and fabulous?Β The flooring is great as well.Β I wouldn’t know whether to look up or down walking into this space.

I don’t even know what the hell I’m looking at here, but whatever, it’s awesome.Β That sputnik light fixture is amazing and everything is so SHINY.
via |
I’m completely in love with this one too – it’s a little bit industrial, a little bit glam, no?
via |
I am, however, brought very quickly down to earth when I realise that a lot of these light fixtures go for hundreds if not thousands of pounds.Β Pretty on the cheap, they are not.
Even on eBay, vintage fixtures like this normally range around the Β£500 – Β£1000 mark.Β Still too rich for my blood.
This particular fixture from Next, however, has caught my eye.Β It’s got that retro styling I want, at Β£120, is closer to being within my budget and the generous diameter of 52cm might actually be rather eye-catching.

I’m also considering taking something chrome like this funky sputnik light for Β£134 and spraying it gold.

I will, of course, be keeping my eyes on eBay in case that elusive gorgeous retro design comes up within budget in the meantime.
There’s more on the wishlist which I’ll be sharing soon.Β In the meantime, anything here or elsewhere that catches your eye?Β Have any suggestions for great (cheap) lighting sources?Β In the Manchester area and have a good size chest of drawers that you are looking to part with? ;)Β Inspired by anything shown?Β I would love to know so please do share.
Also, there’s lots more inspiration on my Pinterest board, Bedroom Inspiration so be sure to see even more bedroom pretty there!
I love mixing styles like that – you'll make it look great! And that is some fab lighting eye candy!!
I really like the sputnik one. I have a good size chest of drawers, but I'm not in the Manchester area and I definitely don't want to part with it. Sorry!
i'm thinkin you should hit up a cool vintage shop and dressed to the 9's ask about a possible trade for a contemporary art piece (painted by you on anything, cardboard, birch, whatev) to up the cool factor in their shop.

if you lived here, you would simply drive up and down a few streets in my town and BOOM be done with it!

smiles.

michele
I love your inspiration shots! I've been looking for nice warm wood nightstands for DECADES and still haven't found any. It would be so much easier to find something I could paint, but since when have I ever wanted something that would be easy? :)
My sister now has a sleep palace. The sleep palace is a result of letting me move in. It's amazing. So amazing that I think she should let me have it. Must see if she'll let me post a picture.
I do love that tall chest of drawers in the first photo. I pinned that one myself a long while back. Such a classy-looking room. And I think it's good to have at least one wood piece in a room, to ground the space. As far as a chandelier, oh, my … all those lovelies. Did I not see you post one on your FB page that you bought already? Or maybe you were bidding on it?
Love the wood with dark walls. So dreamy and romantical!!! Fingers crossed you find something fabulous and cost effective. And all the light fixtures?! Shut the front door amazing!! Pretty sure you could get something and spray it for a way better deal.

xx. Patience

whitelacquer.blogspot.com
