As luxury hotel living is not something I’m able to afford on a regular basis (ahem), I have realised that you can actually bring a little bit of that luxury home with a few simple things that make your own bedroom a relaxing haven, full of the extra touches they employ at any fancy boutique hotel.
While ‘hotel design’ has been around for a while, I always find – for me, anyway – it always seems slightly sterile. A hotel is made for many guests with many different tastes and while the Ham Yard and other boutique hotels are normally more decorative than most,Β there is just nothing like the comforts of home. I want to be surrounded by things that are of my own tastes, the colours, fabrics and finishes that I choose. So when Christy got in touch about trying out some of their gorgeousΒ bed linen, I decided it was my chance to try and recreate the luxe boutique hotel look right in my own bedroom.
The Bedding
Getting that luxe hotel look – with your own personal spin – is all about using a variety of textures and finishes – luxurious fabrics that feel great against your skin and piling up the pillows. I chose their Hanover bedding as the base of this look. It’s a simple striped ombre design in greys and taupes that act as the perfect neutral for a more refined and elegant feel but it’s still interesting enough to make its own statement. The cotton fabric is super soft, irons really easily and feels wonderfully smooth to the touch.
I layered this with the Ladder Stitch flat sheet and pillowcase set which has a subtle pale grey stitching detail to bring out the greys in the duvet cover. The fabric of these sheets is unbelievably soft and satiny. It slips over your fingers beautifully when you touch it and it feels incredibly luxurious against your skin when you go to sleep.
A Bit of Luxe
I’ve always wanted a couple of those large square pillows you see in hotel rooms – perfect for reading and relaxing in bed – and Christy delivered. I chose their Almalfi Pillow Shams in CharcoalΒ together with the matching Charcoal throw. The subtle pattern of the weave adds just a touch of texture and the throw isn’t too warm at night but adds a lovely weight, perfect for winter.
To finish off the look, I fell for their Horizon velvet cushion which gave the bedding a final touch of luxury and added an additional element of texture to the bed. Even though the look is soft and neutral, all those textures play against each other adding interest. If everything was exactly the same material, the effect would be lost – it would simply look a bit flat. If you’re going for this look, then mixing your textures and tones within a tight colour palette creates a little more interest without overwhelming the senses.
Play to Your Senses
Of course, gorgeous bedding is just the start of the luxe hotel look. I decided to burn a True Grace candle in Fig that fills the air with musk and cedarwood along with top notes of rose and mandarin, making it the perfect scent for my hotel luxe feeling.
The Added Extras
And then, of course, you really must spoil yourself with breakfast in bed. A large gold snakeskin embossed tray, topped with a warmed croissant, French-pressed coffee* and a few pretty blooms… well, it’s just enough to get me through the day, really! Of course, a nice magazine never goes amiss either for a chilled out morning, especially when you know you don’t have to check out anytime soon.
In fact, Christy does monogrammed towels which they were kind enough to send as a surprise, which of course I had to include because well, how posh do I feel having a towel with my initials embroidered on it?!Β You can find your own here.
My stay at ‘Hotel Swoon Worthy’ has been rather lovely, I must say. Getting that luxury boutique look at home is actually fairly easy. Of course, my ‘hotel stay at home’ also included a certain little Bengal cat who had to be part of the action…
Well, she does act as my furry hot water bottle at night so I suppose she can stay… but she’s not having my croissant.
Have you ever treated yourself to boutique hotel living in your own home? What do you think of Hotel Swoon Worthy? I’d love to hear from you!
Disclaimer: This post is in collaboration with Christy but as always, all opinions, words and photos are my own. I also received the tray and candle from Sweet Pea & Willow free for my review. I only ever work with companies I really love and think you will too! Thanks so much for supporting the brands that support Swoon Worthy!
Only the finest and classiest hotels provide cats!! :D
Hahaha!! Hey, Swoon Worthy Hotel is a very classy joint I’ll have you know! LOL! xxx
This is perfect timing as we’re awaiting our new bed and mattress, and because we’re upsizing we need all new bedding! We want the new frame to be the star so veering away from our usual bright! bright! bright! bed linen seemed a good idea – yet with no experience layering neutrals I was worried things could look ‘flat’ as you say. Now I know to think about mixing textiles I feel like we have a plan to move forward, thank you! Your Christy pieces look so inviting (although obviously nothing upstages your gorgeous feline!).
I love the idea of monogrammed towels! There’s nothing better than getting into a bed with luxe bedding every night x

Great post!! As someone who designs hotels for a living you are absolutely right. So many hotels like to stick to plain crisp white linen as it is easy to wash iron & replace so its all a game of mixing as many textures as you can and lots of complimenting tones to liven up the pallet and remove the starkness from the bright white background.
Loving the charcoal top pillow/cushion and your cup and saucer is beautiful!! 5 star all the way!
Oh well you’ve made it now haven’t you? Monogrammed towel!!? I love new bedding more than new clothes. A new outfit for your bed. This looks beautiful!!x
Wow! I Would absolutely love to snuggle up in that cozy little cocoon you’ve created there. Complete with gorgeous luxury cat and all. He has the most beautiful markings! Love the room. 7 stars. You sound be designing for Royalty. Seriously.
When can I check in hun? Everything looks just gorgeous. Isn’t Christy bedding the best? And when I check out, I may just put your cat in my suitcase. Ooops. x
I need to book a stay here. It looks nicer than most hotels I’ve stayed in. You really now how to totally nail glam. This makes my bedroom look like a squat.
The little touches really do count :)
I love new bedding, and I have more than I should have. Hotel Swoon Worthy is definitely 5 star, and its looks really cool how you have arranged things. The tray is a nice touch, and looks very yummy. I have some Christy bedding, and I’ve had it for a long times, and it still looks as good as when I first bought it, they sell quality items. I’ve never tried the Hotel Boutique Style, but you’ve made it look so good and effortless, I think I may have to have a go xxx
I love that sugar bowl and cup and saucer. It would look amazing in my kitchen. Any chance you could share where they are from? Thanks in advance. That bedding looks yummy and the bed head is divine.
Hi Julie, thanks so much! I got them from Anthropologie although I’m not sure they still have them in stock as I got them as part of their end of year clearance sales. I think the US site still has the creamer though – do a search for Caldley :) Hope that helps and good luck! xxx
Oh you ar a star, thanks. Just looking up the bed linen, there is a sale on but sizes are limited. Have a great weekend and thanks again for letting me know. Xxx
Aww I think it was on sale when I wrote the post so it may have all been snapped up! Gah! No problem at all – you too! xx
