I don’t really like to talk too much about being nominated for stuff on my blog – I’m not sure why, it just feels a bit strange to me and that is perhaps partly because I’ve lived in England for a long time now and the whole idea of shouting about your accomplishments is something that the British just DO NOT DO. So, I end up feeling like a knob basically.
However, I did kind of want to talk about this one and risk sounding like a knob because it means a lot to me. I found out this week that I’m a finalist in the International category in the Domino Design Blog Awards. WHAT. Honestly, when I received the email and read that, I was literally choked up. There may have been tears shed. I know, the older I get, the more emotional I become but honestly, it just meant the world to me.

Domino is a huge well-loved US-based magazine and website which I’ve been following for YEARS. I think I discovered it shortly after I started my blog 8 years ago and I’ve been a fan ever since. Even the book Domino: The Book of Decorating (which came out in 2009!) has been one of my most favourite interior design books of all time. I love their stuff, I have a huge amount of respect for them and so well, this is a VERY BIG DEAL.
The winners are all flown to Chicago (!!) and while I’m sharing my category with some amazing ladies who are putting out some fabulous content and honestly, don’t expect at ALL to win this thing (it is a popularity vote which I don’t love), well, I’m still gonna give it my best shot.
The best thing is, it literally takes like 2 seconds to vote. While most of these voting pages expect you to fill in your name or your email or register with them in some way, there is none of that here. All you have to do is click the little radial next to Swoon Worthy and click ‘vote. That’s it. Nothing more!

I know what you mean about feeling like a knob asking for votes… but if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have won two years in a row at the UK Blog Awards – it’s done amazing things for my career so I don’t regret any of it!! Wow! Domino?! That’s HUGE!!! In the spirit of fairness, I did check out the other blogs in your category and you should DEFINITELY win. Your blog is all about the design – the others less so.
You shouldn’t feel bad about asking for the votes, after all, you provide us with entertainment year in year out, free, gratis and for nothing! It’s the least we can do to show our support once in a blue moon.
I’ve voted yesterday and today, and kept the tab open to remind me to vote on the other days. I actually DO think your blog in that category is the best! I used to follow Domino years ago, so know what a big deal winning this award would be.

I have designed our space around colour and light with a little glam too. It is dark here in the winter and I want our home to be warm and welcoming with a little ” wow “.
