We’ve spent the last few months in the midst of a construction site. Building work on your home is messy, stressful and chaotic and while I’m so happy we’re finally doing the work we’d planned since we moved into our home, a break from all the dust was something we decided we desperately needed. When The Swan Hotel & Spa in Newby Bridge got in touch to see if we’d like to try out their facilities for a few days, we jumped at the chance.

The Swan Hotel Newby Bridge Lake District Cumbria

If you followed along with my Stories on Instagram (it’s saved to a highlight if you missed it), you’ll know we spent 3 days and 2 nights being wined and dined and essentially spoiled rotten during our stay. The best part is that at the end of this post, I’m sharing a super generous discount with you so you can enjoy a midweek stay just like we did!

The hotel is nestled in the southern tip of Lake Windermere and the surrounding countryside is rather spectacular. We’d visited the Lake District in the past but we realised it had always been over the winter months so to visit during Spring and while the sun was shining was such a lovely experience.

The Grounds and Hotel

The hotel itself is a beautiful building that faces the River Leven which flows from Lake Windermere. It’s a lovely quiet sanctuary surrounded by countryside with its own marina.

Running along the river, the Swan has taken full advantage of this fantastic location with plenty of seating all along the water to enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the ducks go by.

Swan Hotel Interior

Inside the hotel, the decor is a gorgeous mix of patterns (I spotted a lot of Designer’s Guild fabrics!) and bold colours. I love that the decor is not your typical bland standard hotel – there are plenty of comfy areas to lounge and beyond the window seen above is a large swimming pool for guests and a gym.

There’s even a pink pool table!

Vu Spa at the Swan Hotel Lake Windermere

While we were there, we were able to take advantage of the gorgeous Spa as well. While I didn’t take any pictures during our treatments, I had the Full Body Algae Wrap and Wayne had the Full Body Swedish Massage. We both LOVED our treatments and it was such a nice treat during our stay (and we both went back to our room to crash afterwards, we were SO relaxed!). There are so many different kinds of treatments available from a quick mani/pedi to face, body and head massages, wraps and treatments. Definitely worth a visit!

The Love Nest

The Swan Hotel has plenty of rooms within its facilities but tucked away at the back of the expansive property is what they call ‘The Nests’ which are private self-contained cottages.

They are still very much treated as part of the hotel with room service available and plenty of amenities so you really are getting the best of both worlds. We stayed in ‘The Love Nest’ which is for 2 people but the other Nests are larger so you can have anywhere from 4-8 stay at a time, perfect for families or groups. In the image above, you can see the larger nests but the small building at the right was our own little home for a few days! The Love Nest is really rather special in that it’s completely separate not only from the hotel but also from the other ‘nests’.

With its own small patio and firepit, it really does feel completely private and the view from the patio and large glass doors that span across the back is really quite spectacular.

We had ‘visits’ every day from grouse and rabbits (and a cheeky cat who was obviously a pretty rubbish hunter but still fun to watch).

Love Nest Swan Hotel

Inside, there is a large open plan space which accommodates a lovely smartly dressed kitchen (with pink worktops and an induction hob!), a living room area, a bedroom area and a large bathroom, complete with a pink roll top bath. The style is whimsical and fun with plenty of feminine accents but luxury and quality are evident in everything around you.

Inside the Nest Swan Hotel

The Swan truly spoiled us on our arrival, with fresh bread, orange juice, thick cut bacon, eggs, two thick cuts of cake in the fridge and to our surprise, a chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc and two glasses delivered by hand to our door! High-speed wifi, a Sonos speaker and plenty of amenities make it so easy to settle in and relax right away.

The bed was incredibly comfortable as well with Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy pillows and the bathroom is well stocked with luxury bath products. There’s even a little pink dressing table and mirror where I got myself ready in the mornings.

On our first night, they brought us wood and fire lighters for the fire pit too and nothing was too much trouble. They really have thought out every last detail!

We could have very happily just hung out in the Nest the entire time, taking in the views and enjoying all the luxury on hand but the Swan has plenty more on offer.

The Restaurant and Bar

Dinner at the Nest

For our first night, we arranged to have dinner right in our Nest (well, we did want to take advantage of our amazing space!) where a gorgeous feast of lamb, couscous and pita bread were delivered to our room and washed down with chilled wine. The food was fantastic and plentiful.

Swan Hotel Restaurant

Dinner at the Swan Hotel

On our second night, we had dinner and drinks in the main restaurant. As you can see, the fabrics and colours of our room carried over to the restaurant with floral fabrics, deep blue walls and tufted seating make for a very comfortable and relaxing space.

We were also invited to enjoy a few of their speciality Gin cocktails during our stay. We are not big gin drinkers normally but the combination of flavours meant we genuinely enjoyed every single glorious combination they served which is a real testament to the skills of the bar staff. Of course, there is plenty of choice in drinks at the bar and they can serve up just about anything you desire.

Exploring Holker Hall

Holker Hall

The Swan also arranged for us to visit Holker Hall during our stay, an incredible estate and award-winning garden with an indulgent food & gift shop, an incredible restaurant and plenty of beautiful scenery. It only took around 15 minutes for us to drive there.

While I could do a whole separate post on our visit (I seemed to have taken 150 photos – whoops!) I figured I’d just share a small selection here! It’s a lovely spot to visit while at The Swan and I’d highly recommend a popping over there too even if just to check out the staggeringly beautiful gardens.

We had a gorgeous 3-course meal at the restaurant as well which was simply incredible and made with local ingredients as well as from their own grounds.

Of course, I chatted through our entire stay over on my Instagram so if you aren’t already following me there, please do! Simply click on the highlight ‘Swan Hotel’ on my profile page to watch all my Stories of our incredible time there.

I wouldn’t recommend something unless I really loved it and we had an amazing visit – we’d happily go back again as paying customers!
