I love a good table setting, there’s no doubt about that. I have been itching to do one for a while now and considering that we’re heading now into the cosiest months of the year, I wanted to do one inspired by some of my favourite Autumn colours. I also found that H&M are finally doing some full-size plates (they’ve been my go-to for cool side plates for a few years) and so I jumped when I saw they finally had some lovely full-sizeΒ matt black dinner plates at just Β£2.99 each. Yes please, get in my house.

So I decided to contact Venus Flowers in Manchester as I’d admired their shop in the past on my visits into the city and I’d been checking out their Instagram where they show off some of their gorgeous creations. Happily, they agreed to help me out with this post and I think you’ll agree that the flowers and greenery make the whole setting.
The black plates weren’t the only things I got from H&M. I also picked up a gorgeous linen table runner in dark slate grey and the most adorable black cotton napkins with ‘Bon Apetite’ in gold foil lettering across them. It gave the whole table a sort of ‘dark floral’ vibe which was then balanced out with some amazing leopard print napkins and cuteΒ side plates, also from H&M (Are you sensing a theme here?).
By the way, there was a certain small leopard-print cat which decided to make one of the chairs her napping spot the entire time I set up the table and shot it and if you watched my Instagram stories last week, you’ll know I just didn’t have the heart to move her. So yeah, Meisha makes a few appearances as well, mostly as a dark fuzzy lump on one of the chairs.
Back to the table setting… That beautiful centrepiece of flowers were provided to me with a shallow base plastic dish and floral foam. While I didn’t have a vase with an opening wide enough, I realised my ice bucket was actually the perfect fit for the flowers so removing the top of the ice bucket and popping in the bouquet was an easy solution. I love how the flowers were raised up on a gold base but it didn’t make the flowers too high.
And this is something I’ve noticed in the past – whether it was at dinner parties, events or weddings – the floral centrepiece really doesn’t need to be so huge you can’t see across it. It makes for a far more pleasant evening of conversation if you can actually see the people you are sat in front of.
Now I could have just stopped with the floral centrepiece but I’m a maximalist at heart so asked Venus Flowers for some additional greenery and was provided eucalyptus (which I adore – both for its stunning greeny-grey foliage as well as for its gorgeous scent) which I wove across the middle of the table. I simply laid stem one across the other along the length of the table and then curved a few more around the floral centrepiece. It was super easy but very effective to dress up the rest of the table and give it a little bit of drama. The nice thing is, eucalyptus does last a while out of water so you don’t need to worry about it wilting halfway through an evening.
For the place settings, layering for me is always key. I found these beautiful black and white woven placemats on my recent trip to Sweden in a MalmΓΆ shop called Granit (I couldn’t find them on their website, unfortunately) but in doing a bit of research, it looks like House Doctor either makes them or they have ones that are nearly identical so I’ve linked to a shop in my buying guide below that sells them and ships internationally.
On top of these I layered my DIY Glam Chargers (click that link for the tutorial), the matt black H&M plates, a smaller side plate from H&M (no longer available but linked to some others below that would work just as well) and the patterned cotton napkins.Β I tucked a bit of additional greenery into the napkin rings (originally from Zara many moons ago) just for extra flourish.
Do you need two sets of napkins? Probably not but I felt like that extra dollop of pattern just worked so well and I couldn’t resist. Definitely a bit of boho glam there going on.Β I finished off the table with some gold-rimmed glasses (from West Elm, no longer available), gold taper candle holders from Vera Wang and some cute little marble tealight holders (a bargain buy, they are just Β£2 from B&Q believe it or not).

Ahh thank you lovely! You know you’d be welcome anytime!! xx
This is such a winning look!
I can’t handle how pretty it all is. I wouldn’t let anyone sit down!
And I love that eucalyptus. Looks so fresh. Gorgeous styling as ever Ms D xx
You’re table setting skills are impeccable! Such a gorgeous layered look and of course the beautiful flowers and foliage just finish it off perfectly. Venus has been there for a long time, when I left my job in Manchester over 10 years ago my team gave me a beautiful bouquet from there! Such a wonderful florists X
Beautiful Kimberly .waiting to see your Christmas table
Oh Kimberly this is just simply so beautiful! Gorgeous styling as always! A x
Oh that looks AMAZING! I love the mix match plates , and that they are different but work so well together. Those flowers are stunning too, and I agree it’s best to have lower ones so you can see over them
This is so good! I love your table setting posts so much – honestly, I spend ages scrolling up and down examining each photo! It always makes me want to forget my colours and embrace a black, white and gold palette as it works so well – and you have the skills to find so many beautiful and varied pieces that fit right in and look stunning together.
One day I’ll finally sort out a decent table setting!
Love this! xx
Beautiful styling. The mix of green and gold and black is perfect for this time of year – so grown up. Oh, and how cute is your cat?
This is the prettiest table setting I’ve ever ever seen! No one does table settings like you, Kimberly! I’ve been looking for some circular placemats and I love the ones you have. The product description says they’re made of paper – are they wipeable, do you know? I need something that won’t be ruined when something is spilled on it. Ta muchly :-) xx
Aww thanks my dear! Oh I didn’t realise it said paper – that’s so strange! They are more of a woven material and definitely wipeable. Perhaps it’s some kind of recycled material maybe? They feel like a thinly woven bamboo – at least the ones I have do. I really searched for them and these were identical so I’m a little stumped myself by that description! xx
That’s great to know, thanks so much! :-) xx
Oh this is just gorgeous!! And the flowers are beautiful. It makes me want to throw open my home and have my friends round for dinner.
It looks amazing! I love H&M for crockery and the floral centrepiece brings it all together wonderfully.
Beautiful Kimberly, it’s great to see how your collection of crockery is growing, different shops but it all goes together so well. Xxx
Great minds think alike. I bought a dark greyish blue table cloth from H&M and some gold vases for my Christmas table this weekend. Canβt wait to get styling. Your table looks wonderful x
Absolutely stunning tablescape my love. It’s so beautiful and has so many beautiful accents! And I really think eucalyptus brings to much to any setting. And I extra *love* the black candles – very Hocus Pocus xx
The picture of your cat is just perfect!
Oh Kimberly, all of the settings are simply divine! Ever since I discovered your website a few short months ago, I have been binging, trying to catch up on past posts. Ok, so I hope I don’t sound a little weird when I tell you that some of your posts move me to tears because my Mom and I used to do all sorts of creative, adventurous things around the house (she was incredibly artistic) and now I’m taking care of my 91-year old Dad and well, it’s not the same.
I really love your lamps – this Palms one and especially the Pineapple one in the bedroom. I would love to know where to find. I don’t know what to call them to do a proper search.
I am excited to follow your future endeavors in your new home. I wish you all the best!
Oh you sweet thing you! Thank you for your lovely comment (definitely not weird at all!) and I’m so sorry if you sometimes feel emotional reading my posts! I can’t imagine how challenging that must be for you so I’m sending lots of hugs your way. I used to do lots of stuff with my mom too and she’s partly the reason why I love interiors so much. As for the lamps, the pineapple ones are from Graham & Greene (https://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/gold-pineapple-table-lamp-base) and the palm one in the dining room is from Dar Lighting (https://www.lovelights.co.uk/table-lamps-c25/dar-lighting-palm-pal4235-x-table-lamp-base-only-p20155/s20156) I hope that helps! And thank you again, your message made me feel all warm and fuzzy ;) xxx
