Firstly, I just wanted to say a very very big THANK YOU to the outpouring of support for my last post. It seems that among us non-full-time bloggers, it’s a difficult thing getting that balance right. At least I know I’m not alone in my struggles between keeping the blog updated on a regular basis and keeping up to date with the blogging community and having some semblance of a life outside the blog. The struggle continues but I’m not going to stress about it anymore! So that’s a plus. But yeah, I just wanted to say that y’all rock my socks.
I don’t have pretty pictures of the dressing room at this point because it’s not quite at the stage I’m ready to share. It’s not that I’m waiting for it to be fully complete but I just want to finish putting up the lining paper – we’re currently waiting for plaster to dry before we can do that. Fingers crossed that all happens next week and then I can share the stage it’s at currently. It’ll still be a far cry from being ‘done’ but the woodchip wallpaper has been obliterated and it is looking SO MUCH better. And I’ve got pretty plans for the decor of the room so I want to share that with you too.
Anyway, that said, I’ve been looking for a pink chandelier for the room to tie in with the slightly altered colour scheme. I was thinking about something kind of like this as I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg and this was cute and girlie and a little bit OTT… (you’ll see how it ties in soon):

However, in the course of my research, I did come across this monstrosity whilst perusing Pinterest for a pink chandelier. Not just once but MULTIPLE TIMES. People are pinning the shit out of this one.

Now, may I please please please implore the good people of Pinterest and the interwebs. I know you want to do things on the cheap. I know it’s appealing to know you can create a “chandelier” out of wire plant hangers, mardi gras beads, children’s necklaces and whatever else the f**k you have in your junk drawers.
But please do not make shit like this.
It’s an assault on good DIY everywhere.
It doesn’t have to come to this, I promise. As the post title says, ‘Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.’

I'm laughing out loud at this! I've been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and this post has dragged me out of lurkerdom. Very funny, just as funny as that thing masquerading as a chandelier!
I am rolling with laughter. That chandelier is the fugliest thing I have ever seen! I completely agree that it is a no-no!

Agreed!! It reminds me of one of my all-time pet peeves. Why do retailers make ugly stuff? If they made only pretty stuff and no ugly stuff (clothes, decor, whatever), then people would buy the pretty stuff. Now I know that everybody likes different things, but seriously … there is a taste level and surely the CEOs of these companies know their stuff is crap!

HAHAHA. I did a search for a pink chandelier a while back because I wanted one for our office – that got nixed by the husband as too feminine – but I remember seeing this one OVER AND OVER. And not "getting it." But I wanted a colorful chandelier! I ended up buying a cheap (pretty) one, and I just spray painted it tonight. I promise it is better than this monstrosity.
