I realise it may be a little weird to be reviewing a mattress on my blog. I will say that even though we’ve really needed to replace our mattress for probably the last year and I’ve actually been approached by a number of different mattress retailers over the years, I’ve refused to do a review for every single one because I just felt like it was one of those ‘necessary’ items we all use in our homes but it wasn’t exactly sexy or interesting – certainly not sexy or interesting enough to cover on my blog.
That is, until I was approached by Eve Mattress.
What’s so different about Eve? Well, kind of everything. And that’s what excited me. Plus, I mean, LOOK AT IT. IT MATCHES MY BED.
Anyway, the fact that it matched was just a bonus! Also, that photo of Wayne was not staged – that was his actual look of contentment when he laid on it the first time!
I will say right off the bat that I am never ever provided an item on the basis of a positive review. This does NOT happen and everything I’m saying is my honest opinion and my own personal experience. If I didn’t like it, I would simply send it back and you’d not have heard a thing about it. I only accept and review items here that I actually WANT to share with you. Okay so we’re clear there, right? Good. It’s important to me you know this.
So getting back to what’s different. The manufacturers of the Eve Mattress were originally from large mattress retailers. They understood that giving people a million different choices of mattresses ended up being a ridiculously complicated affair and manufacturing a million different choices wasn’t cheap and that was reflected in their costs and overheads and in the price of those mattresses. It also made it confusing for customers who were overwhelmed and not sure what to choose, being forced to feel all weird and vulnerable laying on different mattresses that other people have probably laid on before them in the middle of some superstore just to test out which was best. Awkward.
So they left their respective mattress businesses behind and started their own. They decided they were only going to make ONE type of mattress. Yep, that’s it. Just one. And set out to figure out what THE PERFECT MATTRESS actually was.
They also set out to make the customer buying experience as easy and as practical as possible. This meant an online shop only, translating into no middle men, no excessive mark-up and it’s delivered to your doorstep in a box. There’s also a 100 day trial period so if at any time you decide it’s not perfect for you, they will come and pick it up at no cost. So it’s really a no-brainer.
I wanted to go through the same customer service experience as you guys would do so I placed my order online. When you shop on the site, there’s a handy little live chat box that opens if you need to ask a question but there’s lots of great information on the site and it’s really easy to use. Once I chose my mattress size (remember, there’s only one type of mattress so only one product page to look at!) and went through the buying process (it connects to Paypal if you need it, which I find invaluable so I don’t need to go running for my purse and I know my purchase is protected) and that was all there was to it. Super straight-forward.
I placed my order on Thursday. On Friday, I received a text message saying my mattress was out for delivery and on Saturday morning, I received another text telling me my mattress was on it’s way. The mattress was delivered by around 9am on Saturday. That’s not bad, eh?
The mattress arrived in a big huge yellow (rather heavy just to warn you) box and once opened, you are greeted by a happy message and your mattressΒ snuglyΒ curled up inside. The box is fairly easy to then pull apart at the seams.
Once the mattress is removed from the box (which is really cute in itself with lots of quotes about sunshine and new days), it’s in a lightweight bag. The mattress has had a lot of the air removed from it when it first arrives (making it cheaper to transport than a traditional mattress) so revealing it from it’s cocoon is rather exciting ;) And yes, I totally let Wayne struggle with that himself – my excuse is that I was wielding the camera!! Ha!
We then removed the protective plastic from the mattress and laid it on the bed! It started to fluff up almost instantly although it was still a little soft at that point. It takes around 4 hours for the Eve mattress to fully regain it’s air and overnight, it goes to full capacity (it’s like magic I swear).
The cover is a soft knit fabric that feels soft and lovely, not like that scratchy awful polyester that most mattresses are covered with. Below the cover there is a layer of memory foamΒ which is natural, antimicrobial and keeps your body cool whilst providing a bit of ‘bounce’ – this also moulds to your body when you put your weight on it. It’s INCREDIBLY comfortable and you really feel the full support of it.
Below the layer of memory foamΒ is polyurethane foam which helps supports the top layerΒ and really, you just feel cradled. I have NO issue with getting comfy before sleeping now – I have had issues with previous mattresses of moving into various different positions just trying to get comfortable and with this, as soon as you are in a horizontal position, you feel like you can just stay there FOREVER. So nice.
The final layer is high density foam which provides a more firm support for the upper layers. The incredible thing about this bed is that it feels both soft AND firm. Which to me sounds like some kind of voodoo witchcraft but is apparently the result of a lot of research and testing by the guys at Eve.
I have to say guys, I’m a total convert. I mean, I wish I could invite you all around for a sleepover because that’s the only way I could convince you that this is the BEST and MOST COMFORTABLE mattress I have ever slept on. And it’s not just me. Wayne has said exactly the same thing (although his words were actually, “It’s f***ing awesome…” because he’s a potty mouth, apologies). I think Meisha approves as well.
We have both slept better on this mattress in the last week and a half than we have in years and let’s face it – we’re not exactly young, we sometimes wake up with mysterious aches and pains (it’s a hard fact of life, peeps, that’s what happens once you pass 40). But with this bed? We wake up feeling GOOD. I can’t get over how the quality of our sleep has really been affected. It’s SO much more comfortableΒ than a spring bed and more supportive than a memory foam mattress.
You can check out Eve MattressΒ on their site and with a 100 day money back guarantee, I have no doubt you’ll be just as convinced as I am.
Have you ever fallen in love with a mattress? What do you think of Eve?
*This post contains affiliate links which just means that if you purchase the bed via my link, I get a small commission which doesn’t affect the price you pay at all, it just helps me buy pretty cushions to decorate my bed! I received the mattress free for my review but like I always say, I only work with companies I really like and think you will like too and I genuinely LOVE this mattress! Thanks so much for supporting the businesses that support Swoon Worthy!Β
This does sound perfect! I never have a clue what it is we actually want, and the mattress I have cost me a tenner off eBay 3 years ago (actually it was a bargain, 1 year old kingsize they had to get rid of to make room for a cot), and though pretty comfortable, it doesn’t fit our bed frame (annoyingly Ikea-sized) leaving big gaps either side. So this one sounds great. However, I am holding out for the perfect bed frame a while longer, but once we have found it (more french flea markets must be attended) I am going to treat us to one of these. Do they make them in all sizes, i.e. could I get an Ikea dimension one if I ended up deciding to go for it sooner?
Me again – realised that was super lazy of me and went over to their site and checked myself – and yes, Ikea sizes available! :-)
Haha! Yes Anna, as you can see, they come in both standard and UK sizes – isn’t that cool? And honestly, you will not regret the purchase. It’s phenomenal and I never thought I’d be saying that about a mattress ;) xxx
I will have to look into this one since I got a new bed which is larger than our last one but haven’t bought a fitting mattress yet – so, in a way, we still don’t really have more sleeping space even though the bed takes up more room… And yes, all those little aches…I feel your pain, literally ;-)
Totally recommend this clearly! Without a doubt, its the best mattress I’ve ever slept on and hell yeah, getting old bites! ;) xxx
Oh, that would be awesome! A new mattress and a good night’s sleep…what is that like? Looks super nice :) xo
It is AMAZING!! I don’t want to get out of bed now though – my only criticism! ;) xxx
Reading about it, I’m actually excited about the mattress and the concept behind it! Really love that yellow too! Never thought I’d be saying that about a mattress ;-).
We only recently splurged on an expensive pocket sprung mattress last year (worth every penny though, we find it very comfy) but had this come before then, I’d have definitely been interested in this one.
Glad you’ve got a comfy place to sleep now :-)
I’m incredibly impressed with it!! It’s amazing what a great mattress can do for a good night’s sleep :D xxx
The yellow is amazing! And I absolutely swear by our memory foam mattress – I will never ever go back! I absolutely believe you about this being your new favorite thing ever, because I’m ludicrously fanatical about our bed :) We had to wrangle the full and heavy queen-sized mattress up the stairs, however, so I LOVE that this ships in a more manageable box!
It’s incredible how passionate one can get about a mattress isn’t it?! ;) But god once you realise what a really GOOD mattress does for you, you just couldn’t possibly go back to crappy ones lol xxx
Does that sit on a standard box frame?
Yep as that’s what we’ve got! :) And they do all sorts of sizes as well if that helps! xxx
I was just wondering – does this smell very much? I have found that some memory foam and latex mattresses have strong and unpleasant chemical smells, so I’m just wondering if this one has a noticeable smell or not. Thanks!
It did have a bit of a chemical smell for the first few days although I didn’t find it too strong (Wayne noticed it more than me!). However, that went after probably the first week and it’s fine now! :) Hope that helps! xxx
Thanks!
Hi. I’m really interested in this mattress but uncertain about how supportive it can be as it comes rolled up. I have tried the temper mattress and would need the original (cloud is too soft for us). Do you have a view on how this mattress compares for firmness to the temper range?
Cheers
Unfortunately I don’t have experience with temper mattresses so I really couldn’t comment on how they compare! I can say that this has a really lovely firmness to it – once all the air goes back in the mattress, there’s NO WAY you’d be able to roll it back up – it’s very firm but has ‘give’ when you lie on it which sort of cradles you similar to a tempur if that makes sense. I find it very supportive, much more than what we had before which was just your typical sprung mattress. Hope that helps!
Thanks for detailed blogpost….you have covered each and everything about eve mattress in this post. I think they will get more customers just because of 100 day free trial offer.
Weird that they have now changed the composition of the mattress. It used to be latex on top with memory foam below that, but now the memory foam is on top. Why would they do that if the mattress was perfect before? My guess is they did it to differentiate themselves from the similar Leesa mattress which has slightly deeper top layers.
Oh I didn’t know they’d changed it! That’s interesting. It could be – when I received my mattress, I’d never heard of another like it but I see they are sort of popping up everywhere now! I do wonder the difference now in terms of comfort – I find mine really comfy so imagine it may be a bit different with the layers reversed. Thanks for the comment for others that may be looking at these! xx
I think it’s to reduce costs too – the old mattress was latex foam, then memory foam then regular foam, now it’s just one layer of memory foam and two layers of regular foam which is surely cheaper to make. The Leesa mattress seems to have a similar construction to the old one at a similar price, I am considering that now.
This should say “advertisement” at the top – particularly as you are using loads of affiliate links.
The post clearly states that it uses affiliate links and that the bed was provided free for my review.
Hi Kimberly, great review and beautiful pictures as usual! One quick question: do see any difference between the Eve mattress and other similar ones in terms of overall “immersion”? The guys here http://www.mattress-guides.net/eve-mattress-reviews-complaints/ say the fact that it’s only 10-inch deep make it less than ideal. I’m on the brink of buying it…
Not at all a problem for me or my other half – you sort of nicely ‘sink in’ without it being overbearing or difficult to move around. The thickness is absolutely fine and my standard fitted sheets work perfectly so I don’t actually think 10 inches is particularly unusual. It certainly doesn’t effect the comfort level in my opinion :) Hope that helps! I still love mine :) xx
Hi Kimberley, I am just about to take the plunge into an EVE mattress and wondered just how firm they actually are?
It’s a weird one to describe Charlotte! There’s plenty of support so it feels firm but when you lay on it, there’s a certain amount of give in the top layers so you sink in slightly. So it’s neither very firm nor is it very soft. I tend to prefer a more firm mattress myself (although not hard if you know what I mean) and I find it super comfortable! Hope that helps xx
Be advised the top layer is no longer Latex but memory foam. It seems they have changed their description.
I see they have changed the description. Thanks Khan, I’ve updated my post accordingly!
I purchased my eve mattress a couple of months ago now. It’s so comfortable but not keen on the smell, it doesn’t seen to go away. Any suggestions. I keep the window open all the time. It smells like a damp cloth. Does anyone else have the same problem?
I would love to see a few more websites like yours. Really appreciate the detail you went into. Iβve been looking into opening a mattress store, and the product research is the toughest part. Most on what Iβve found is commercially sponsored content, and as essential it is to advertise your product, Iβm more of an old school guy who talks to customers like i give advise to friends. Your blog really helps me out sort the mess in my old head. Iβm still a little confused about how latex and memory latex fare with each other, especially in the lower price versions. Could you maybe help me out?
